If Canon is Ferrari, and Nikon is Lamborghini, then Ricoh is one of those non-mainstream alternatives which oozes a subtle kind of cool. For street photographers the Ricoh GR series has what can only be described as a cult following, and for good reason.
The GR iii is my personal favourite camera. Read this review to find out if it could be yours too…
Why you would buy this camera?
The #1 reason you would buy a GR is street photography. If that’s not your thing there really isn’t any point reading further (see ya!). Every aspect and compromise of this camera has been considered with street photography in mind. It’s also somewhat affordable, especially compared to a Leica 😏

A better question for this camera is Is it portable? Being just shy of 11cm wide makes it really small for a 24mp APS-C sensor and lots of useful tech. It’s so small you can carry it around in your pocket and forget it’s there. That’s a huge bonus to me as I hate lugging bulky cameras around (which is why I sold my Canon). It also means I’m much more likely to take it with me when I go out.
The design of the camera is discreet unless you opt for the garish blue ring version (what were Ricoh thinking? 🤷). That makes it easy to point in the direction of strangers without risking a punch.
The ergonomics and grip aren’t wonderful, but that’s not surprising with the camera being a point-and-shoot.

Yes. It’s stylish in a really subtle unobtrusive way. If you like flash then buy something else, but flashy isn’t cool, is it?
